Midge Walkers
Walk No. 201
Broadgate and the Parks 01.01.2026.
15 folks and Noola the dog, including Gill Kirby (the 149th to join us) a new starter, set off in bright but cold weather from Broadgate Bus Terminus going over the 1759 built, Humpback Bridge to Leyland Rd, then onto the pathway running between the River Ribble and Penwortham Holme. As we came to the Strand Rd. and Broadgate junction, we recalled the murder site of 20-
We now entered Miller Park which is well laid out and maintained with plenty of folks enjoying themselves, Noola was having a great time chasing her ball. Next, we entered Avenham Park before taking a pathway to East Cliff, Garden St., Winckley Sq., and to the Avenham Arts School, from there we passed through Bushell Place to the house once owned by Edwin Booth. When we arrived at the site of the Siege of Sevastopol Canons we paused whilst Raymond took a group photo. Going down a flight of steps, we arrived at and admired the new Tram Road Bridge hopefully we will soon be able to walk across it. Moving on it was good to see lots of families enjoying the good weather and the parkland.
We now arrived at the Park Café where an unscheduled diversion of the whole group took place!! The café was very busy but somehow, we all gathered around a table for coffee/tea and a selection of food offerings, which was a very pleasant and pleasing time. Eventually we walked through the park onto South Meadow Lane into Wolseley Rd., and return.
Clearly everyone had enjoyed what was a short 3 miles (ish) but scenic walk, with plenty of good companionship.
